The Arthaus Workshops

At The Arthaus, we take pride in fostering creativity through a diverse range of creative workshops. While we specialize in mixed media arts, we also offer a wide variety of other workshops, as well as, private events tailored for you and your friends.

Beginner Mosaic Panel

Come to The Arthaus to disconnect for a few hours and leave with a masterpiece!

In this workshop you will create an 8x8 glass mosaic panel made entirely of colorful glass of your choosing. You will leave The Arthaus with a framed work of art ready for hanging. If you prefer to display your mosaic outdoors we have mosaic substrates that will withstand the elements; those pieces will not be framed. You can make your choice at the workshop.

A large variety of glass will be available for your use. Cutting/safety supplies, hands-on class instruction and simple design templates will also be made available.

Feel free to bring any non-porous flat embellishment(s) that you would like to embed into your mosaic to make it extra special. (ex: old pins, broken heirloom china, jewelry pieces, etc.). Also, please have a simple design in mind for your piece. Pinterest is a very good resource.

Payment due to reserve your seat.

3 hour workshop. Minimum of 4 participants.

Beginner Collage Art Journaling Workshop

Tap into your inner child through cutting and pasting!

In this workshop we will be cutting, pasting and arranging collage pieces in a handmade journal while learning the fundamentals of collage. We will also be adding mark making, paint and journaling to further personalize your journal.

All collage supplies (images, stencils, stamps, paint, glue) & tools included, along with a handmade journal of your choice to work in.

I encourage you to bring meaningful collage material to include in your journal.

Payment due to reserve your seat.

3 hour workshop. Minimum of 4 participants, maximum of 8.

SoulCollage

SoulCollage is a creative and intuitive process that combines images, intuition, and self discovery to create a personalized oracle deck. Participants in this class will explore their inner parts of self by using the techniques of SoulCollage to begin creating a personalized oracle deck. Optional participation: We will spend the last portion of the workshop interpreting the meaning of our cards. You will be amazed at what they unveil.

All supplies (magazine images, glue, scissors, etc.) included however, you are strongly encouraged to bring any smaller than 5x7 images that appeal to you.

Note: In 2010 I became a certified SoulCollage facilitator, taught by the founder of SoulCollage, Seena Frost (pictured). The certification course took place over a weekend on the CA coast and to this day was one of the most insightful weekends of my life. You can find more about SoulCollage here.

Payment due to reserve your seat.

3 hour workshop. Minimum of 4 participants.

Repurpose & Reflect - Art Journal

In this workshop we will take a hard cover book of your choice, dismantle it and turn it into an art journal. We will then spend the remaining time collaging/working in our journals. Journaling prompts will be provided to get you started.

Please bring a *hard cover book of your choice. This is a good way of repurposing a book you have laying around your house. It is strongly suggested that the cover of your book be appealing to you as we won’t be spending any time modifying the covers. Thrift stores are a great source for books. The rest of the supplies and materials will be provided.

*Books should not be too larger/thick as large pages tend to be harder to fill and therefore, a bit more intimidating.

I encourage you to bring various ephemera (stickers, fortune cookie fortunes, notes, special receipts, etc.) to add to your journal.

Payment due to reserve your seat.

3 hour workshop. Minimum of 4 participants.

Altered Altoid Box Shrines

In this workshop we will take an ordinary Altoid mint box and completely transform it into a little shrine. Your shrine could be a dedication to a loved one, a hobby, a favorite thing, a religion, etc. The sample above is a Tarot shrine with the High Priestess card being the inspiration. A mini deck of tarot cards lives in this shrine (not pictured in the example).

All tools are included as well as an endless array of stamps, stencils, paint & embellishments.

*I strongly encourage you to bring various small bits of ephemera (stickers, fortune cookie fortunes, broken jewelry, a very small picture of a loved one, etc.) to add to your box to make it personal and cohesive.

Payment due to reserve your seat.

4 hour workshop. Minimum of 4 participants.

Small Painted Canvas

In this workshop you will create an 8x8 stretched canvas piece using paints, collage materials, magazine images, stencils, ink & other embellishments.

We will spend the first few minutes of class discussing layering, use of stencils and other elements, as well as, basic design fundamentals.

Feel free to bring various ephemera (images embellishments, letters, fortune cookie fortunes, etc.) to personalize your piece.

Payment due to reserve your seat.

3 hour workshop. Minimum of 4 participants.

Encaustic (Wax Dipped) Family Collage

Let’s take an ordinary deck of playing cards and transform the cards into a work of art. We will collage, paint, sew & apply embellishments to decorate your cards. Once complete, we will dip them in wax, connect them & then adhere them to a substrate ready for framing and hanging. Frame not included.

*All supplies included, however, you are strongly encouraged to round up small and meaningful collage ephemera to include in your piece. If you have a sewing machine, I encourage you to bring it as the studio only has 2.

The example piece reflects my family pictures and tidbits related to the individuals on each card. As an example, the card in the lower right hand corner is dedicated to my brother who was a stamp collector and sea scout growing up, so I paid homage to his hobbies with the chosen embellishments (vintage postage stamp & ships wheel/helm). My other brother (middle far left) was a coin collector growing up so I chose an embellishment resembling a coin. Note: You can make a collage honoring friendships, partners, hobbies, etc.

Payment due to reserve your seat.

4 hour workshop. Minimum of 4 participants.

Painted Boxes

In this 3 hour class, we will take an ordinary wooden box and transform it with paint, stencils, stamps, beads & mark making tools.

All supplies included.

Similar to the Repurpose & Reflect Art Journal Workshop but on a bigger, chunkier scale & with a more elaborate spine. In this workshop we will take a hard cover book of your choice, dismantle it and turn it into an art journal. We will then spend the remaining time collaging/working in our journals.

*Please bring a hard cover book of your choice. This is a good way of repurposing a book you have laying around. It is strongly suggested that the cover of your book be appealing to you as we won’t be spending any time modifying the covers. Thrift stores are a great source for books. The rest of the supplies and materials will be provided.

Feel free to bring various ephemera (stickers, fortune cookie fortunes, etc.) to add to your journal.

All tools are included as well as an endless array of stamps, stencils, paint & embellishments. I encourage you to bring various small bits of ephemera (stickers, fortune cookie fortunes, etc.) to add to your deck to make it more personal.

Healing Dolls

This doll was created after my mother passed away and my son, who at the time was only 6, was dealing with a great deal of grief for the very first time. Looking for something to help soothe his grief I created this “ugly doll” from my mothers jeans, a scarf and buttons from my long deceased father and grandmother. From the day I presented this doll to my son, it went with him everywhere. He appropriately named him Martin (my maiden name). To this day, many years later, Martin is one of his prized possessions and very well “loved” on. It went over so well with the entire Martin family that I made my adult nephews mini “Martins” for their holiday trees.

*Please bring whatever fabric and embellishments, you have honoring your loved one. This could also include a trinket or loved note that can be included with the stuffing. Other non personal supplies such as stuffing, buttons, ribbon, etc. are available for use along with 2 sewing machines. If you have a sewing machine, I encourage you to bring it as the studio only has 2.

Mixed Media Pouches

In the first part of this workshop you will paint, stencil and mark up a large piece of cotton canvas. We will then place our pieces outside to dry while we plan out our embellishments. In the second half of the workshop you will cut your canvas to size, sew and embellish your pouches with ribbon, buttons, etc.

All supplies provided. If you have a sewing machine, I encourage you to bring it as the studio only has 2.

Vintage Plate Pendants

Got plates?

In this workshop you will take a *plate of your choice & cut out a chosen image (using wheel nippers & a grinder), solder a decorative edge and leave with a beautiful pendant on a stainless-steel chain (choice of 16, 18, 20 or 24 inch chains).

*Please bring a plate that you would like to work with. It’s especially meaningful if the plate has sentimental meaning. The flatter the surface, the better (i.e., teacups are much more difficult to work with because of the curved surface).

*If you do not have a particular plate you want to work with, there will be plates to choose from for purchase in the studio.
